Founded in 2021 by a small group of restaurateurs, Foodiee.ca was created to support local, predominantly family-owned establishments. The severe effects of indoor dining bans created by COVID-19 and the explosive growth of 3rd party delivery platforms with their exorbitant fees have wreacked havoc on the hospitality industry. The smaller, independent restaurants had the most to lose as they often lacked the capital and tech-savviness to compete against the more established chains. 

That is why we came together to form Foodiee.ca.

Restaurant delivery has surged during the pandemic and it has been the large franchises and multinational corporations with their delivery platforms that have benefitted the most.  Most people are not aware that they charge restaurants upwards of 30% of sales to be listed on their site. Profit margins are already razor-thin in the food industry and oftentimes, restaurants lose money being on these platforms.  Not only do they perpetuate the ‘low-paying’ gig economy, but many of these companies are not even based in Canada and their profits are sent abroad.

We believe that there is a better way in doing business with restaurants.  Our goal is to connect guests to local independent restaurants that desperately need your support.  Not only do they pay low fees to be on the platform, but a portion of each sale is donated to food banks in your community.  It’s a WIN-WIN for everyone!

OUR VALUES

Independence

The restaurants on our platform are free to run their business how they see fit. They do not need to raise prices to cover outrageous fees like on other platforms. We help them by directly forwarding customer information to them. They establish relationships directly with them unlike other platforms which keep customer information to themselves. Customers, on the other hand, are not being charged higher fees to help restaurants recover what they usually pay out to 3rd-party platforms. Customers reach out directly to the restaurants for any issues or concerns they have rather than going through a call center halfway around the world with people who, quite frankly, don’t care about their experience.

Fairness

We are a very transparent company in all aspects of our business. As restaurant owners ourselves, we know how hard we need to work to keep the ‘lights on’ in our business. The fees we charge restaurant owners to use our services are just enough to cover our operating costs. We do not charge the customers any service fees to order from our platform. The drivers who pick up and deliver your food get to keep 100% of their tips. We want to support everyone involved.

Community

Local, independent businesses are the ‘heart and soul’ of a community.  They employ your friends, family and neighbours. Giving them the opportunity to survive and flourish only benefits everyone around you.  A portion of each sale is also given to local area food banks to those in need. When you eat, so does someone less fortunate than you.
